About DPDSAA

DPDSAA is a UK based Grant-making charity with focussed emphasis upon animal welfare and education within the region of Algarve, Portugal.

Multiple Portuguese factors shape funding and attitude to animal welfare, but many of those factors will continue for many years to come. Recent EU Regulations help, but do not override generational thinking. Having previously been engaged within both Infrastructure and ongoing Welfare projects, DPDSAA have reached the (saddened) conclusion that without some fundamental nucleus of change, there will be near perpetual continuation of the current unacceptable situation.

Therefore as at 2025, DPDSAA are now committed to the following primary objectives:

1-    TNR(Trap/Neuter/Return) of feral cat colonies, plus supported sterilisation of low-income family pets (cats & dogs).

2-    Animal Welfare education of the younger generation Portuguese, only when human attitudes are more empathetic, will real animal welfare improvements be highlighted and substantially improved.

3-    Assist the many good local Municipalities and Associations to provide basic animal welfare to their existing unsupported animals.
